Step 1: Opening Sponsor File

  • Documents Needed:
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email
  • Mobile Number (+971)
  • Worker Category
  • Worker’s Nationality
  • Comments (Add any additional requirements or notes) Important: This is required if the sponsor has not previously sponsored a dependent or maid.
    Comments: Approval typically takes 24 hours, and notification will be sent via SMS.

Step 2: Entry Permit

  • For Expats: A refundable deposit of AED 2,000 is required (IBAN is necessary for refund). Comments:
  • After the typing process, approval notification will be sent via SMS.
  • The employment visa will be emailed by MOI-GDRFA. Inside UAE:
  • If the worker is on a visit or cancelled visa, follow the process. Approval will be notified via SMS. Outside UAE:
  • If the worker needs to enter on an employment visa, this visa will be called an “Entry Visa.” Approval notification will be sent via SMS.

Step 3: Change of Status

  • Next Step: After obtaining the Entry Permit approval (for workers inside the UAE). Note:
  • You must complete the residency visa application before the expiry date of the Change of Status document (valid for 60 days).
  • Notification of approval will be sent via email from MOI/GDRFA. Important: The domestic worker cannot leave the UAE until the residence visa is stamped. If the worker needs to leave urgently, the Entry Permit can be cancelled.

Step 4: Medical Fitness Test

  • Requirement: As per UAE law, domestic workers must be declared “fit to work” before the residence visa can be issued.
  • Typing must be completed before the worker undergoes the medical test.
  • Medical examinations must be conducted at approved government health centers. Note: The medical fitness certificate is valid for 90 days.

Step 5: Emirates ID

  • Emirates ID Application: Necessary for residence visa approval.
  • Biometrics must be completed if the worker is applying for the first time. Validity:
  • Local (Emirati): 2 years
  • Expat: 1 year
  • GCC Nationals: 2 years Important: Biometrics must be done within 10 days of generating the Emirates ID application, or the application will become invalid.

Step 6: Medical Insurance

  • Requirement: As per UAE regulations, medical insurance is mandatory for all domestic workers (maids, nannies, housekeepers, etc.). Policy Issuance: The insurance policy will be issued after:
  • The labor contract is signed.
  • The medical certificate (FIT) is provided.
  • A copy of the Emirates ID typing is submitted.

Step 7: Employment Contract

  • Contract: The New Domestic Workers Law (Law 10/2017) applies.
  • MOHRE employment contracts for 2017 and 2018 are accepted for new visa applications.
  • The sponsor must print the MOHRE employment contract for new visas or if an old contract exists.

Step 8: Residency Visa Application

  • Final Step: The residence visa application is submitted, and once approved, the visa sticker will be stamped in the worker’s passport. Validity:
  • Local (Emirati): 2 years
  • Expat: 1 year
  • GCC Nationals: 2 years
